This young family wanted to turn their unfinished basement into a space that worked just as well for the kids as it did for the parents. The vision was a basement that could grow with their family—offering a safe, playful environment for their young children now, and transforming into a cool, functional retreat as they age. The result is a well-balanced renovation with designated zones that meet everyone’s needs: a private home gym, a soundproof music room for the homeowner's band, and a cozy entertainment area where the whole family can relax, play, and spend time together.
With a work-from-home lifestyle, convenience was key. We designed a sleek and secure in-home gym featuring black metal and glass sliding doors that visually elevate the space while remaining practical. The doors can be locked to keep curious little ones safe, and the gym itself is outfitted with rubber flooring and a full wall of mirrors—bringing a professional feel to every workout.
As a musician in a band, the homeowner needed a dedicated space to practice—without disturbing the rest of the household. We constructed a sound-buffered music room using specialized insulation and added an exterior-grade, extra-thick door with full weather stripping to contain the sound. This allows for late-night jam sessions while ensuring the kids’ bedtime routine stays undisturbed upstairs.
The heart of the basement is a spacious, open area that encourages togetherness and creativity. A cozy movie-watching space is perfect for family movie nights, while nearby, the kids have room to spread out toys, play with friends, and shoot hoops. This space strikes the perfect balance between fun and function.
