With two young kids and a love for cooking and hosting, this Arlington Heights family had outgrown their home's cramped and disconnected layout. They envisioned a first-floor where homework, dinner preparation, and entertaining could all occur with ease, bringing everyone together in one connected floor plan.
To bring their vision to life, we completed a full first-floor renovation. Walls that once boxed in the kitchen, dining room, and front living area were removed, creating one open, inviting space designed for togetherness. To make room for a larger kitchen footprint, we relocated the powder room and took advantage of the home’s truss system, allowing us to open up the space without adding bulky beams.
Every element was designed with a purpose. The new kitchen features a stunning single-slab Cambria quartz island with pop-up outlets that keep cords tidy and electronics charged—a thoughtful touch for a family that enjoys cooking and multitasking.
The island also features a prep sink and a second dishwasher, making it ideal for managing the preparation and cleanup of large gatherings.
They also needed a dedicated home office on the first floor—one that could double as an air hockey zone when the workday was done—freeing up a bedroom upstairs for out-of-town guests.
Custom cabinetry and all-new flooring brought warmth and cohesion to the space, while a new front door added curb appeal and better light. For this family, the result is more than just a renovation—it’s a space that finally works for the life they’re living now and the one they’re growing into.
