The basement in this Arlington Heights home was partially finished, but it didn't serve the family in a meaningful way. The goal was to turn it into a flexible space where the entire family could spend time together while supporting the way they live day to day.
A dedicated play area was created for the homeowners’ two sons, along with extensive custom storage to keep the space organized. One wall of cabinetry was designed specifically to store the boys’ large Lego collection, giving their creativity room to grow while keeping everything neatly contained.
The layout was intentionally designed to remain flexible over time. What serves as a play space today can easily evolve into a hangout area for movie nights, games, and gatherings as the children grow older.
To make the basement fully functional, a powder room was added so family and guests can comfortably spend time on this level. The homeowners also incorporated a dedicated home gym, allowing them to continue their shared early morning workout routine without leaving the house.
